Walking through that open door into your new future starts with one small step. That first step creates momentum and sets you on the path forward. The key is to take that step and keep moving. It may be two steps forward and one step back but that is okay. The point is that you are moving while looking toward your future. Toward who you want to become.
If you feel fearful or stressed about moving forward, it is helpful to begin by taking baby steps. When you stay in inaction, it only tends to make the fear and difficulty feel worse.
One easy baby step to take is to write down or draw what your vision for your future looks like. Have it clear in your mind so that you know what you are reaching towards. If you are a visual person post the picture or a description in a place that you can look at it daily. It is preferable for you to look at it in the morning when you first wake up. That way you set yourself on a clear positive path for the day.
Another easy way to get started is to give yourself a time limit. Block out a short time frame, like 30 minutes, where you will do one thing to step you toward your vision. No matter how daunting it feels, honor that block of time and keep the appointment. After a short time, you may even feel some relief. Because once you get started it is usually easier than you thought it would be. At that point, you may even want to spend more time at it.
Once you have taken that first step, you can reward yourself with a special treat that you love or a comforting activity that makes you feel good. Giving yourself something positive to look forward to can help to motivate you to take that step, even if it seems scary.
Remember that the path is not always easy, therefore you may trip and fall along the way. If this happens, do not be disheartened. Get back up, dust yourself off, and continue on. The thing to remember is to keep focusing on your vision and not to lose sight of it. Your future that you want is waiting for you.
